In 2015, the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation Board of Directors decided that it was time to pass the torch onto the next generation of family members: six of Martha Gerbode's grandchildren. The Nature Defense Foundation is a product of the Foundations reorganization and it aims to carry Martha's passion for environmental protection into the future.
Board meetings are four times annually.
The board and staff members of the Nature Defense Foundation are encouraged to play active roles in their communities by serving as being involved with a wide spectrum of nonprofit organizations.
Nature Defense Foundation does not pay its volunteer workers or staff. Though headquartered in San Francisco, we meet once per month via video-conference to be able to collaborate with other like minded, private grant-making foundations worldwide to expand our environmental impact. We are also open to collaborating with non grant-making parties to diversify our donation process.
