Nature Defense Foundation is committed to preserving our natural world and its resources.

Our Mission

In this age of climate change and mass extinction, it is paramount that we do everything within our power to preserve what we have left of our natural world and its resources.

From the coral reefs to the glaciers, our planet is on the brink of losing its ability to recover from what is now known as the Anthropocene Era, the era of man made destruction.

The survival of what is left of the wilderness, the creatures that inhabit it and our natural resources are dependent on our actions as human beings; Nature Defense Foundation has taken on what small part we can do to save and protect our shared planet.

SPOTLIGHT ON:

Sindisa Sanctuary

Sindisa Sanctuary provides a forever home for rescued farm animals and shares their joy of freedom with visitors to their 125-acre property in Healdsburg, CA. Their work raises awareness of all animals as sentient beings who deserve fundamental rights and compassion.

They have been affected by the Kincade Fire, and currently need extra help to get back on their feet.

About NDF

The Nature Defense Foundation grew out of the reorganization the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation, which generously supported nonprofit organizations for the benefit of the arts, education, the environment, public health and civil rights within the Bay Area and Hawaii.

The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation was originally founded by Martha Alexander Gerbode in 1961 in San Francisco, California. In 2015, the Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation Board of Directors decided that it was time to pass the torch onto the next generation of family members. The Nature Defense Foundation is a product of the Foundation’s reorganization, with a deep commitment to carry Martha's passion for environmental protection into the future.
